I think I wrote this after reading a Stephen Covey book, The 7 Habits Of Highly Successful People. It was, and is, a mission statement I wrote for myself. I dug up a poetry notebook I had and I'm posting some things from it. I'm going to post the mission statement in the way I wrote it, which in true e.e. cummings style, is all in lowercase. I haven't read it in a long time, but I thought it'd be a good reminder for me, something to get me thinking. So, follow along:
believing
true beauty comes
from the soul,
i strive
to show kindness
to all people
in my thoughts,
in my words
and in my deeds.
i seek
a closer relationship
with God,
my family
and my friends.
i will
act in humility.
i strive
to understand
and empathize
with those
less fortunate than
myself,
particularly children
and strive
to help
those people
with my talents.
i will
apply my talents
in helpful ways
to all people,
especially children.
i strive
to find happiness
and the good
in all people,
and bring smiles to
everyone.
i strive
to be a
role model
and a
conscientious citizen,
looking for
the most
beneficial ways
to live,
to love,
to learn
and
to leave a legacy.
i strive
to always show
a compassionate heart.
i strive
to demonstrate charity
without
calling attention
to my deeds.
i strive
for the courage
to make
wise decisions
that will help,
and not harm,
the lives my
decisions
will affect.
i strive
to seek wisdom,
and keep myself
in shape
spiritually,
physically,
mentally,
emotionally
and socially.
i strive
to support
my friends,
family
and others
without being
judgemental.
i will
look for a
woman
whose
inner beauty
shines and embodies
similar principles
to mine,
and is able
to help me
grow
as a person,
while growing
closer
as a family.
i strive
to eliminate
harmful and wasteful
habits
that
deter me
from my mission.
i strive
to reflect
daily
upon my life
and seek
forgiveness
for my
weaknesses,
and in return,
strength.
in my reflection,
i will
seek
improvement,
starting with
my
soul.
